The potential role of cranial endplate damaging pedicle screws in accelerated disc degeneration – a clinical cohort study combined with finite element analysis

BERECZKI Ferenc, LAZARY Aron, POKORNI Agoston Jakab, TURBUCZ Mate, ELTES Péter Endre

Adjacent segment degeneration (ASD) is a multifactorial condition resulting in a subsequent surgery in a significant number of lumbar fusion patients. A possible risk factor for accelerated disc degeneration can be the deteriorated metabolic conditions.

Sensory-substitution-based perception interface using spinal cord stimulation applied for hearing aid

MIKLÓS Gabriella, HALÁSZ László, VÁRKUTI Bálint, SAMAN Hagh Gooie, TÓTH Emilia, MAX Hasselberger, GIJS Van Elswijk, ERŐSS Loránd

The World Health Organization estimates that around 466 million people suffer from disabling hearing loss, with children constituting 7% of this population (2019). While cochlear implants aren’t suitable for all hearing-impaired individuals, sensory substitution principles, like non-invasive vibrotactile techniques, can be used to assist hearing-impaired patients.

Intradural spinal tumors: Surgical considerations and institutional experience

JURILJ Sajko M., SAJKO T.

Spinal intradural tumours are rare, with a reported incidence of 3 to 10 per 100 000 people. They frequently cause pain, followed by neurological deficits and sphincter dysfunctions. In selected cases surgery is a method of choice with favourable results on clinical symptoms and overall quality of life.

Middle meningeal artery embolisation for chronic subdural hematomas in surgically high risk patients due to hematological malignancies

LENZSÉR Gábor, KUNCZ Ádám, CSÉCSEI Péter, NAGY Csaba, TÓTH Arnold

Middle meningeal artery (MMA) embolisation has emerged in the last two decades as a possible way to treat chronic subdural hematomas (CSDH). The outer layer of the hematoma capsule recruits blood supply from the dural arteries which will contribute through the leaky capillaries of the membrane to the expansion of the hematoma.

Semirigid spinal fixation techniques could help prevent proximal junctional kyphosis – A Finite element study

TURBUCZ Mate, POKORNI Jakab Agoston, LAZARY Aron, ELTES Endre Peter

Proximal junctional kyphosis (PJK) is a common complication following long instrumented posterior spinal fusions. Biomechanical studies suggest that one of the leading causes is the sudden mobility change between the instrumented and healthy spinal segments.
