Superior gluteal artery perforator flap for the soft tissue reconstruction after resection of sacral tumors

LAZARY Aron, SZOVERFI Zsolt, BICZO Adam, HALMY Csaba

Reconstruction of the soft-tissue defects following sacrectomy is challenging, usually requiring flaps to fill in the surgical cavity and to provide optimal wound healing. Vertical rectus abdominis and gluteal muscle flaps the gold-standard methods for soft tissue reconstruction after sacrectomy – are characterized by technically demanding preparation and necrosis or chronic atrophy in case of deteriorated blood supply.

Qualitative results of recently introduced functional MRI studies at the Department of Neurosurgery and Neurointervention, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary

VÁRALLYAY Péter, SZUDI Gábor, ANDRÁSSY Anita

fMRI studies were successfully introduced into the armamentarium of neuroradiological MRI examinations in the past year at the Department of Neurosurgery and Neurointervention, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary. Our goal is to present the rationales and initial qualitative results of our fMRI studies.

Hemangioma of the cavernous sinus - case report of a rare entity

GERENCSÉR Eszter, VÁRALLYAY Péter, SIPOS László, POZSÁR Kinga, GÁTI Georgina

Cavernous sinus hemangiomas are rare benign vascular malformations presenting a diagnostic challenge and often confused with other, more common parasellar tumors. Making the correct diagnosis preoperatively is essential as surgical resection carries a high risk of intraoperative bleeding.

Subclinical acromegaly: case report

EGAS Jennifer, ACOSTA William, VILLENA Maika, LLUMIGUANO Carlos

Acromegaly is an endocrine disorder characterized by hypersecretion of growth hormone (GH), which leads to an overproduction of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) generating typical morphological changes such as an increase in the size of the acral parts. Subclinical acromegaly can be considered as a non-functioning adenoma that is immunopositive for GH in surgical piece or as biochemical acromegaly without clinical stigmata.

Transanal protrusion of ventriculoperitoneal shunt in the setting of appendicitis

WIÈM Mansour, GHASSEN Gader, MOUNA Rkhami, MOHAMED Badri, KAMEL Bahri, IHSEN Zammel

Complications from ventriculoperitoneal shunts are varied. Perforation of hollow organs and subsequent natural orifice protrusion is a rare but well known complication. We report a case of a transanal protrusion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) in the setting of previous abdominal pain possibly consistent with acute appendicitis.

Diagnostic significance of contrast-enhanced fluid- attenuated inversion recovery sequence in imaging intracranial pathologies

SZEKERES Mónika, FEHÉR Kinga, NYILAS Viven, POZSÁR Kinga, VÁRALLYAY Péter

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the primary imaging techniques for the diagnosis of intracranial pathologies. Administration of contrast material is necessary in some type of intracranial lesions, such as neoplastic and inflammatory processes.

Early therapeutic anticoagulation after life threaten- ing intracranial bleeding

KELEMEN József, KATONA József, BATA Máté

There are cases when we have to begin early anticoagulation after craniotomy. A few studies in this field try, but none of them succeed to define the best timing of its beginning.

Cartilage within lipomyelomeningocele and ulnar longitudinal deficiency syndrome as VACTERL association, alliance in SHH/GLI3 and Wnt pathway, illustrative case with review of literature

MIKAEL Aseged Shimekit

Lipomyelomeningocele associated with ulnar club hand in the spectrum of VACTERL association is a very rare and rarely reported phenomenon. Within the fat mass of lipoma, it’s not common to find well-defined cartilaginous mass with no attachments to the surrounding tissue.
