[The aim of this study is to assess the relationship between the physical activity of asthmatics, sleep disorders, the extent of asthma treatment, and to assess the quality of life in terms of physical activity. We conducted our quantitative, cross-sectional survey between 2020-2021. In a non-randomized, comfort sampling the target group was defined as adolescents aged between 14–18 years, their diagnosis of asthma bronchiale had to be for at least 1 year ago. The data were collected by a self-prepared questionnaire, the domains included: socio-demographic questions related to physical activites, symptoms, sleep disorders, severity of asthma. We used miniAQLQ to assess quality of life. The statistical analysis were performed by using Microsoft Excel 2016 and SPSS v 24 programs. Descriptive statistics (mean, standard deviation, minimum, maximum), two-sample t-test, Chi-square test were performed. The mean age of the respondents was 16±1.51, 38% were boys and 62% were girls (N=105). There was no significant difference between physical activity and the frequency of seizures and sleep disorders (p>0.05). There is a significant difference between the genders and the symptoms increasing with intense exercise (p=0.02). We found significant correlation between the active participations in physical education classes and the severity of the disease (p=0.021). There is a significant correlation between moderate-, social activities and physical activity (p<0.05). Appropriate health education, recommendation in career choices as well as in physical activities done by nurses may lead to decrease in the number of suffocation attacks in cases of adolescents suffering from asthma bronchiale.]

[Burnout and depression among healthcare nursing staff]

IRINYI Tamás, NÉMETH Anikó

[The aim was to assess the levels of burnout and depressive symptoms among nursing staff members. We designed an online questionnaire for the present cross-sectional study, which was filled out by 10 285 participants between 01-27-2022 and 02-14-2022. The mean score of burnout showed a decrease compared to the score measured in 2021; however, the percent of nursing staff members suffering from burnout is still high (64.4%), from which 42% indicates severe burnout which would requires treatment. Concerning depressive symptoms, 57.8% of participants did not indicate the presence of depression, the rest presented different levels of depressive symptoms (6.8% showed severe depressive symptoms). Currently patients’ chance of recovery is under the expected level of what our healthcare system could provide, which is partially due to the affected mental state of healthcare nursing staff.]

[History of the development of wound care]

SZABÓNÉ Révész Erzsébet

[The onset of wound care dates back thousands of years. To make the wet wound treatment used today so effective can be a bumpy road. Knowledge of local processes required for wound care, mapping of the effectiveness of materials needed for wound care, treatment of bleeding suppression and traumatic shock caused by injury, destruction of pathogens entering the wound, ensuring optimal hygiene during wound care, treatment of the underlying disease in chronic wounds, all contributed to our ability to provide effective care today. The series of wars over the millennia have greatly aided the development of wound healing, as many developments are still known today that were already used by the army before they spread into everyday practice. ]

[Identifying osteoporosis in a primary care setting with quantitative ultrasound]

HIRDI Henriett Éva, SZOBOTA Lívia

[Osteoporosis is one of the most under-diagnosed and under-treated health conditions. In recent decades, several risk indices have been developed to identify women at risk for low bone mineral density (BMD) who require a BMD test. This study aimed to demonstrate that quantitative ultrasound bone density measurement can indeed be performed simply by nurses working in primary care, which can significantly facilitate early detection of osteopenic and osteoporotic conditions. Method: The medical records of all patients who had an ultrasound of the left heel using the quantitative heel ultrasound machine between March 2021 through December 2021 were reviewed retrospectively. The subjects were 20-64-year-old adults (N=1032). Calcaneal quantitative ultrasound parameters were registered with Sonost-2000 bone densitometer. The body composition was measured using a multi-frequency segmental body composition analyzer. The measurement results were evaluated with SPSS 22.0 statistical program and descriptive statistics. The mean age of the population studied was 43.12±9.6 years; 29.7% were men and 70.3% were women. Of the women in our study, 2.4% were osteoporotic (T ≤ −2.5), and 49.86% were classified as osteopenic according to the WHO operational definition. Osteopenic values were measured in 32.35% of men. A total of 273 subjects (26.45%) in the study sample were in the 50-64 age group (223 women and 50 men). 4% of women over the age of 50 had osteoporosis and 63.7% had osteopenia. Rating of the OST score no one was placed in the high-risk group. Of the 9 women with osteoporosis, 8 were classified as low-risk and 1 as medium based on OST. Nurses in primary care are able to identify key risk factors for osteoporosis, examine the measurement with quantitative ultrasound, and identify individuals with the disease. ]

[Evaluation of clinical practices among academic nursing students]

NAGY-GÁL Anetta

[Purpose: Establishing a balance between theoretical and practical training is essential in the training of college nursing students. The aim was to assess the students’ experiences of clinical practice and the problems they indicate in the component, which plays an important role in preparing the training for professional competencies. The study sample consisted of 3rd and 4th grade students (N=96) participating in nursing training at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Semmelweis University. The method of data collection was based on the completion of a quantitative online questionnaire, which also included qualitative elements in the form of three open-ended questions. Among the statements measured on the Likert scale, the balance of theory-practice, the role of participants in education, and the time spent on practical tasks received lower average ranks from both grades. Logistic regression is suitable for estimating the probability of a positive/negative impression of a practice as a combined effect of several explanatory variables. Compared to the results of a previous (2009) study, the problems with field clinical training remain unresolved.]

[Impact of the type of hematopoietic stem-cell transplant on quality of life and psychopathology]

JANICSÁK Henrietta , MASSZI Tamás , REMÉNYI Péter , UNGVARI S. Gabor , GAZDAG Gábor

[Despite the decrease in transplant-related mortality, patients who receive hematopoietic stem- cell transplants often suffer from short-and long-term morbidities, poorer quality of life, and psychosocial functioning deficits. Several studies have compared the quality of life and affective symptoms of patients after under- going autologous and allogeneic hematopoi- etic stem-cell transplants. Some studies have reported similar or greater quality of life im- pairments in allogeneic hematopoietic stem- cell recipients, but the findings have been inconsistent. Our purpose was to examine the influence of the type of hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation on the quality of life and affective symptoms of patients.]

[Assessing Quality of life of Women with Cervical Cancer After Treatment]

KOZMANN Krisztina, JÁNOSNÉ PÁNKI Roxána, FERENCZY Mónika, KOMLÓSI Kálmánné, KARÁCSONY Ilona

[To assess sexual function, functionality and quality of life in women with cervical cancer. Descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative, non-random, purposive sampling of women (N=91) with FIGO stage I/II/III cervical cancer, more than 5 months after last treatment. The study used standard questionnaires with self-designed questions. Data were analysed using Microsoft Excel, descriptive and mathematical statistics (p<0.05). Completers who received radiotherapy scored significantly higher in functional status (p<0.05) and emotional function than those who did not receive radiotherapy (p<0.05). Completers with lower levels of emotional well-being were significantly more likely to have lower levels of sexual function and higher levels of gynaecological problems (p<0.05). Women affected by cervical cancer often experience somatic and psychological disturbances that reflect on quality of life associated with the disease and treatment.]

[Analysis of the Quality of Life Patients With Huntington’s Disease and Their Families In Hungary]

SZALAI Klára Szilvia, MOLNÁR Mária Judit, MOLNÁR Viktor, ÁCS Andrea

[The aim of the research study was to get a better picture of the patient’s quality of life with Huntington’s disease and their caretaker’s. One of the main topics of the investigation was the family, because taking care of a Huntington’s patient can have a big impact on their lives. Our further concern was to introduce the concept for the families and test their open mindedness, if they would take assistance from nurse graduates to make the patient’s medical journey shorter and help with their everyday life challenges.

The cross-sectional research was done by validated tests, as well as, self-made tests which contained socio-demographic data and questions regarding the disease. The trial took place at Semmelweis University, at the Institute of Genomic Medicine and Rare Disorders in collaboration with the patients and their families.

According to the patients, their life quality is affected more physically than their mental health. The experiment showed that the disease has a big impact on the quality of life of the family members. The family members would be more open in regards to accepting help from advanced practice nurses.

Huntington’s disease has a negative impact on the quality of life of the patients and their families. It would be adequate to study if the provided help of advanced practice nurses could improve their quality of life. ]

[Examining the Impact of Smoking on Oral Health-Related Quality of Life among Young Adults]

TOROK Anna, NÉMETH Anikó

[The purpose of the study is to investigate the quality of life of young adults in relation to oral health and how smoking affects this. The aim is to explore the differences in oral health-related quality of life between smokers, non-smokers, and quitters in a given age group.

The survey was conducted using a self-designed online questionnaire that included the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) questionnaire. The survey was conducted from May 01 to June 30, 2023, using a nonrandom sampling method that relied on easily accessible subjects. Data were processed and analysed using IBM SPSS 20.0 statistical software, descriptive statistics, Kruskal-Wallis test, and Spearman’s rank correlation analysis (p<0.05).

Based on the 317 assessable responses, smokers had a higher average OHIP-14 total score than non-smokers and quitters, but there were no significant differences in oral health-related quality of life between the groups (p=0.540). Four self-reported questions were added to the OHIP-14 questionnaire: dissatisfied with the colour of their teeth; afraid of communicating with others without seeing their teeth being seen; afraid of having a serious oral problem; afraid of losing their teeth. These issues are highly correlated with the OHIP-14 questionnaire and fear of oral lesions appears to be present among smokers.

Young adults do not yet show a significant deterioration in oral quality of life due to smoking, but additional questions are worth considering to assess the quality of life in smokers.]
