Novel visualization of skull base surgical approaches based on human cadaver

GÁCSI Kristóf, BALOGH Álmos Attila, NAGY Gábor, MÁTYÁS Adrienne, JANOVSZKY Ágnes, PERÉNYI Ádám, TÓBIÁS Zoltán, NÓGRÁDI Antal

Modern medical education has incorporated anatomical softwares offering a virtual dissection experience. However, cadaver-based dissection simulation provides us with more realistic anatomical view. Due to their labour-intensive nature only a few high-quality cadaver-based 3D virtual dissection simulation models are available worldwide.

Fractal analysis of childhood cerebellar tumors

MEZEI Tamás, BÁSKAY János, MARKIA Balázs, VÁRALLYAY Péter, BANCZEROWSKI Péter, POLLNER Péter

Pilocytic astrocytomas, embryonal tumors, and ependymomas are the most prevalent types of pediatric posterior fossa tumors. Preoperative knowledge of the pathological diagnosis may facilitate optimal surgical management. The intricate geometry of these tumors can be characterized using various metrics, including fractal geometry parameters, which are instrumental in describing irregular and rough shapes. Our objective was to perform fractal analysis of pediatric posterior fossa tumors to identify potential new radiological biomarkers.

Brachial plexopathy due to the oncological radiation treatment related to malignancy?

ANDRIJA Savić, MILAN Lepić, ALEKSA Mićić, JOVAN Grujić, ALEKSANDRA Stojiljković, LUKAS Rasulić

Radiation-induced plexopathy is a debilitating complication that can result from cancer treatment, leading to progressive motor and sensory deficits. This study aims to assess the outcomes of surgical intervention in patients with radiation-induced neuropathy who did not respond to conservative treatments.

Functional recovery after surgical treatment of the radial nerve injury

SLAVKO Djuraskovic, LAKICEVIC Novak, RASULIC Lukas

The radial nerve is the main extensor of the upper extremity and its injury leads to hand drop and inability to put a hand in a functional position, which produces disability in patients every day and work activities with big socioeconomic problems.

Aggressive pituitary tumours – the first Hungarian experiences

ANNAMÁRIA Kövesdi, CSABA Sumánszki, BÁLINT Scheich, LILLA Reiniger, HAJNALKA Rajna, SIPOS László, CZIRJÁK Sándor, NAGY Gábor, NYILAS Nóra, VÁRALLYAY Péter, JÁNVÁRY Levente, SINKÓ Dániel, BARSI Péter, SZŰCS Nikolette , TŐKE Judit, KORBONITS Márta, TÓTH Miklós

Pituitary neuroendocrine tumors (PitNET) are frequent intracranial neoplasms, usually with indolent behaviour. However, a significant minority appear to be clinically aggressive, as suggested by early and frequent recurrences and resistance to standard treatments. Metastatic spread is rare.

Middle meningeal artery embolization to treat acute epidural hematoma, case report and literature review

OLÁH Csaba, OLÁH Benedek

Treatment of acute epidural hematoma is surgery as soon as possible, elimination of the source of bleeding and evacuation of the hematoma. In case of small epidural hematoma, strict neurological and radiological follow-up is necessary.

Tailored patient specific skull base approaches to achieve maximal resection

PISKI Zalan, NEPP Nelli, LUJBER Laszlo, DOCZI Tamas, HORVATH Zsolt, BUKI Andras, TOTH Peter

Surgery of complex skull base tumors is a great challenge, because of the complicated bony and essential neurovascular structures involved. It makes it even more difficult that the extent of resection of skull base tumors often determines patients’ outcome.

New isolation protocol of human astrocytes from brain

GRADISNIK Lidija, VELNAR Tomaz

In vitro organ culture systems with living nerve cells are very attractive for investigating the mechanisms of neurotrauma and neurodegeneration. Astrocytes are a particular focus of research.
