Pre-treatment patients´ expectations and factors affecting outcome of degenerative lumbar disease surgery

Majority of patients with sciatica caused by lumbar disc herniation (LDH) have a positive clinical course and good recovery after non-surgical treatment. Those patients treated surgically usually have good results in first few years of follow-up.

Treating neuropathic facial pain with gasserian ganglion stimulation

Medically intractable neuropathic facial pain is a debilitating disease. According to the 3rd Edition of the International Classification of Headache Disorders, it can result from conditions like multiple sclerosis or mass effect, and can also be linked to post-traumatic or post-herpetic nerve injuries.

Intramedullar glioblastoma: A case report

Intramedullary glioblastoma is an extremely rare entity accounting for only 1.5% of spinal tumors. It is characterized by rapid progression. Here we report the case of a 51-year-old patient who presented with mixed low back pain associated with a urinary retention.

Subclinical acromegaly: case report

Acromegaly is an endocrine disorder characterized by hypersecretion of growth hormone (GH), which leads to an overproduction of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) generating typical morphological changes such as an increase in the size of the acral parts. Subclinical acromegaly can be considered as a non-functioning adenoma that is immunopositive for GH in surgical piece or as biochemical acromegaly without clinical stigmata.

A magas betegségaktivitás elméleti megközelítése és prognosztikai fontossága sclerosis multiplexben

A sclerosis multiplex (SM) a központi idegrendszer autoimmun gyulladásos, demyelinisatióval és neurodegenerációval járó betegsége. A betegség kezdetét jellemző gyulladásos jellegű immunfolyamatok mellett – melyek relapszusokat okoznak –, a betegség kezdetétől krónikus gyulladás is jelen van. A krónikus gyulladás által előidézett katabolikus folyamatok felelősek a betegség progresszióját okozó axonpusztulásért.
