In 1887, Horsley performed the first spinal surgery, marking the significant milestone in medical history by successfully removing tumor from spinal cord. However, technology used at the time pale in comparison to modern spinal procedures.
Over the years, we’ve witnessed remarkable progress, discovery of X-rays, introduction of operative microscope, and development of innovative techniques such as laminectomy. These milestones have paved the way for a new standard of minimally invasive spinal procedures.
Today, these procedures require highly advanced technology and specialized training for surgical team. Moreover, this progress underscores the importance of training nursing staff to proficiently operate this cutting-edge technology, ultimately leading to improved patient outcomes.
Nursing in spinal surgery is characterized by meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to patient centered care. Recognizing the crucial role of nursing in spinal surgery emphasizes their dedication to patient well-being and their significant impact on procedural success.

New possibilities in spinal surgery: The way to the robotic surgery

BANCZEROWSKI Péter

Not only other surgical and robotic fields, but minimally invasive procedures in spine surgery have undergone significant development in recent times. A demand emerged from both surgeons and patients to develop and perform these types of surgeries in order to prevent biomechanical and surgical complications.

Critical role of acquisition and postprocessing in fMRI language mapping

ANDRÁSSY Anita, SZUDI Gábor, VÁRALLYAY Péter

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is crucial for presurgical language mapping in neurosurgery, helping identify eloquent brain regions to preserve during operations. Effective language mapping depends on advanced fMRI acquisition and detailed data analysis to ensure accurate clinical outcomes.
