[The field of healthcare is constantly developing, and the role of nurses is of paramount importance in the optimal care and treatment of patients. Practical education for nurses is essential to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to provide complex health care to patients. However, traditional hands-on teaching methods are time-consuming and sometimes offer limited opportunities to practice in varied and critical clinical situations.
This article reviews the place and benefits of simulation in the practical education of nurses. The simulation gives nurses the opportunity to practice handling different cases in a realistic, controlled environment, thus improving their decision-making skills and communication skills. After a brief historical overview, it will be presented what types of simulation tools and methods are available for the practical education of nurses and how they support the students’ knowledge acquisition and development.]

GÁLL Evelin Liza, GYÖNGYÖSI Fanni Nikolett, NÉMETH Anikó

[The dental hygiene of the elderly is showing a devastating picture worldwide. Among the reasons we can find: behavioural factors, medicines, different illnesses. The bad dental hygiene, which is called paradontitis, can be the reason of so many different illnesses. Tooth loss in old age and bad mouth hygiene is not a basic thing and it is not a natural occurence. By sustaining the appropriate dental hygiene and visiting the dentist frequently one can avoid these problems or can be managed in time. In this announcement, the reasons of the bad dental hygiene of the elderly, the possibilites of prevention and the steps of dental counseling are listed.]

[Circadian Rhythm Disruption Disorder among Nurses working at Saint George Hospital in Fejér County]

BUJDOSÓ Eszter

[The aim of this study is to map the psychiatric and somatic disorders in nurses that may be caused by an overnight biological shift due to night shifts.

The study was conducted among the staff of Fejér County Szent György University Teaching Hospital. During this process, the occupational health documentation of 268 nurses was processed, and questionnaire data (n=108) was also collected. Sleep disorders were assessed using the Epwort Scale, while anxiety was assessed using the Beck Anxiety Scale. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency and mean calculations, Chi2-test, and t-test.

The BMI value of nurses working in multiple shifts is higher, but there is no significant. The average score on the ESS sleep scale of nurses working multiple shifts was slightly higher than that of nurses working one shift. When examining Beck’s Anxiety Scale, there was no significant difference between the two shift schedules either.

In our opinion, due to the low number of items there is a difference everywhere but it is not significant.]

[Hungarian Nurses Day]

TISÓCZKI Evelin, BALOGH Zoltán

[On February 19, 2022 We celebrate the 205th anniversary of the birth of the first national matronage (head nurse), Zsuzsanna Kossuth. Zsuzsanna Kossuth was characterized by a high degree of empathy, self-sacrifice, exemplary behaviour, and professionalism. She laid the foundation for the processes of nursing and patient care and performed outstanding professional work throughout his life. She made no distinction between man and man, she only saw the suffering patient, in every soldier and injured. She sacrificed his life for his profession. The Hungarian Nursing Association founded the Zsuzsanna Kossuth commemorative medal in 1998, the year of the 150th anniversary of the War of Independence, which is donated every year on February 19.]

[Establishment and Role of Clinical Demonstration Units in Health Facilities]

PÁPAI Tibor

[Practical education is of paramount importance in different areas of health training. The scenes and educational tools have changed a lot in recent decades. At the pre-clinical level of practical training, one of the most up-to-date venues in the development of abilities is the clinical demonstration unit. The conditions for the effective operation of such units are high -level organization, professionalism and regulation. The author presents the history of the establishment of domestic clinical demonstration units. Based on his many years of professional and teaching experience, he also recommends a more efficient operation of units.]

[The role of the nurse in the rehabilitation of patients who have undergone SARS-CoV-2 infection]

HARRER Éva

[Scientific research appearing in the literature proves that the effective rehabilitation of Covid-19 patients begins already in the phase of acute care. Aim: The purpose of the study is to assess nurses’ knowledge of rehabilitation along the lines of continuity of health care for Covid-19 patients. The research was conducted among nurses working in the care of Covid-19 patients by analyzing an online questionnaire. The selection criterion for participation in the study was that the respondent should work as a nurse during the study and in the pre-trial period in the field of Covid-19 hospital care. The questionnaire consisted of 25 closed-ended questions about rehabilitation care for Covid-19 patients, knowledge of disease-related damage, and rehabilitation-oriented care for Covid-19 patients. The nursing staff does not know the rehabilitation needs of patients with Sars-CoV-2 virus infection. Nurses identify rehabilitation with long-term goals rather than as a process appearing at every stage of patient care. Nurses have incomplete knowledge of both rehabilitation options and nursing roles. As a result of the pandemic, rehabilitation is also playing an increasing role in acute care. In the training of nurses, greater emphasis should be placed on the development of a rehabilitation approach and the education of knowledge. More effective patient care necessitates a change of mindset in nursing activities. ]

[The Legacy of Juan de Dios at the Dawn of Modern Nursing]

HEGYI Viola Katalin

[The aim of this paper is to provide information on the history and cultural context of the work of Saint John of God, who became the patron saint of nurses and health workers. Sixteenth-century Spain served as a cradle for the innovations of Saint John and his followers, who established hospitals and provided care for the sick and the poor at a time when the Church was immersed in theological debates and thus seemed to forget one of its main missions: humanitarian and charitable aid to those most in need. The development of the Hospitaller Order’s nursing and health care practices, far ahead of its time, including the implementation of rules and regulations for hospitals and the extraordinary training of health professionals, is analysed. The continued work of the Religious of St. John of God, who operate health care and social service institutions in more than 50 countries today, is highlighted. Overall, we wish to provide a historical and cultural overview of the role of nursing and health care in society in the transition from the Middle Ages to the Modern Age. For this purpose, an analysis of the corresponding medieval and contemporary historical literature has been carried out beforehand.]

[Effect of blood pressure on the flow characteristics of the renal artery in the case of healthy and single kidney condition]

CSONKA Dávid, SZUKITS Sándor, BOGNER Péter, KOLLER Ákos, WITTMANN István, HÁBER István, HORVÁTH Iván

[Changes in blood pressure may affect flow characteristics and thus the haemodynamics of the kidneys as well. This effect may be more explicit in the single kidney state. The in vivo unmeasurable flow characteristics can be effectively estimated by numerical flow simulation. The primary aim of this study was to demonstrate that hypertension and isolated systolic hypertension result in changes of the flow characteristics of the renal artery that are more pronounced in the single kidney condition. Methods: Right and left renal artery branching angles were measured retrospectively in vivo in a randomly selected group of patients. A series of numerical flow simulations were performed, healthy and single kidney models to measure the flow characteristics of the renal artery. Blood pressure was first gradually increased from 120/80 mmHg to 200/90 mmHg. Subsequently, the case of isolated systolic hypertension was simulated by gradually decreasing diastolic blood pressure to 200/50 mmHg. The output parameters of the simulation were the pressure, turbulent kinetic energy, velocity and volumetric flow at the outlets of the renal arteries. Results: The average of the renal artery branching angles was 78° on the left side and 66° on the right side. The simulation results showed that hypertension and isolated systolic hypertension consistently alter renal artery flow characteristics to a greater extent in the case of single kidney. Conclusions: The kidney can be damaged by higher pressures, and an increase in turbulence may lead to atherosclerosis in the renal artery branching. These characteristics are higher in the single kidney state; thus, it is more dangerous for the kidney. Flow velocity and volumetric flow are not significantly dependent on the single kidney state.]
