Forty years ago, a two page long article (without references) was published in Brain Research by Palkovits. The article’s single figure show two coronal sections of the rat diencephalon with three tiny holes of thousand μm in diameter each; the first hole represented the removed paraventricular nucleus at the right side of the brain while the other two were of the habenular nuclei. The procedure - later named and officially known as brain micropunch method - helped to open a new chapter in neuroscience

Hans Selye (Selye János) is mostly known for his discovery & development of stress the concept that he first described in a short article in Nature, 1936. Yet, Selye made several other seminal discoveries & creative new observations, e.g., the first scientific classification of steroid hormones, the introduction of notions such as ‘corticoids’, glucocorticoids & mineralocorticoids, the first description of their anti- & pro-inflammatory properties, respectively, as well as the first description of stress ulcers in humans.

For my presentation today, I have no slides or powerpoint because it is so long ago, and I will not read from a manuscript which certainly is in agreement with Hans Selye who never did that.
