[Non-small cell lung cancer as a curable disease?]

OSTOROS Gyula, BOGOS Krisztina, BERTA Judit

[The complex therapeutic strategy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has changed significantly in recent years. With the perioperative use of immuno- and chemotherapy or targeted therapies, disease-free survival has been significantly increased. In oncogene addictive metastatic NSCLC, the range of targeted therapeutic options is expanding significantly, the expected overall survival is measured in years. In the case of non-oncogene addictive metastatic NSCLC the new immune- and chemotherapy clinical trials have demonstrated a 5-year survival rate of almost 20%. In the light of these data, it can be stated that lung cancer can no longer be considered as a stigma. There is a chance that this cancer, with a poor prognosis previously, will become a chronic disease, even in stage IV lung cancer, with an active tumour control over the years. Complete recovery is nowadays still predominantly expected in patients who underwent ablastic pulmonary resection discovered in early stage, but it can also be a reality in locally
advanced stages using the combination of radio-chemotherapy and immunotherapy.]
