A prospective randomised trial on the management of post haemorrhagic hydrocephalus

BALAZS Markia, CSILLA Nagy

The treatment of post-haemorrhagic hydrocephalus in premature newborns is one of the most challenging tasks in paediatric neurosurgery. To date there are two main methods for temporary management of hydrocephalus in this vulnerable group of patients: ventricular access device (VAD) and ventriculo-subgaleal shunts (VSGS). There is no high-quality evidence to support one method over the other, the best available evidence is coming from retrospective series.

Fractal analysis of childhood cerebellar tumors

MEZEI Tamás, BÁSKAY János, MARKIA Balázs, VÁRALLYAY Péter, BANCZEROWSKI Péter, POLLNER Péter

Pilocytic astrocytomas, embryonal tumors, and ependymomas are the most prevalent types of pediatric posterior fossa tumors. Preoperative knowledge of the pathological diagnosis may facilitate optimal surgical management. The intricate geometry of these tumors can be characterized using various metrics, including fractal geometry parameters, which are instrumental in describing irregular and rough shapes. Our objective was to perform fractal analysis of pediatric posterior fossa tumors to identify potential new radiological biomarkers.
