[Investigation of the burnout syndrome among the employees of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy at the University of Szeged]


[Research on burnout syndrome among healthcare professionals is of pre­dominant importance and enables improvement of intervention programs. Our aim is to evaluate the burnout syndrome among the employees of the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy at the University of Szeged. Cross-sectioned design utilizing a self-administrated questionnaire was used to collect data from the staff. Burnout was measured using the Maslach Burnout Inventory, while psychological immune competence was measured using the Psychological Immune Competence Questionnaire. Burnout is higher among subjects who work more weekly hours and who report more somatic symptoms. Burnout levels are lower among participants who report more social rela­tion­ships and stronger psychological immune system. Burnout of healthcare professionals has an impact on their well-being as well as indirectly on the quality of patient care.With better knowledge of the protective and risk factors, better intervention and prevention methods can be developed. ]

[Occupational health nurses play exceptional role in terms of their practice, they are trained to have an understanding of the special interaction between work and health. The beginnings of occupational health nursing can be traced back to the Industrial Revolution. This article is a summary of information about the first documented occupational health nurses in the late 19th century. The authors briefly present the best-known nurses’ lifeway and particular roles in this field.]

[Survey of preconception and acceptance of the robotic care among elderly people]

[Application of robots might ease the labor shortage of the ageing society care in long term. The aim was (1) to measure the acceptance of the robotic care among elderly people, (2) measure the preconception related to the acceptance of robotic care. A personal survey was done in 2020 June. The questionary was filled out by 40 Hungarian people all above 60 years. The questionary contained questions about the acceptance, trust in robots in general and acceptance, possible usage fields of care robots. Each people filled out the questionary twice. After the first fill out, there was a presentation about robots in general and the participants could meet with two different robots. Then the questions were asked again. The analysis mostly based on the comparison of the first and second questionnaire. The revulsion of elderly people against robots is mostly based on preconception, after a short explanation we could change their attitude and achieve better acceptance of robots. However, in the case of capability of handling robots our results showed too high self-confidence, which we could not explain yet. Therefore, more research is required in this field. The preconception of elderly people against robots is real phenomenon, but since mostly it is based on the missing knowledge of robots and robotic care it can be change by the appropriate education and personal experiences.]

[Prospective life-quality study after total hip replacement]


[The aim was a scientific investigation of health-related quality-of-life outcomes of patients after total hip arthroplasty. We performed cohort, prospective, descriptive examination using the form of a questionnaire at the Orthopedic Clinic of the Semmelweis University in-patient department between May 2018 and January 2019. The investigation involved patients suffering from degenerative primary coxarthrosis scheduled for elective surgery. The study included thirty (n=30) patients with the average age of seventy-two. The gender distribution was the following: male 36% (11 persons) female 63% (19 persons). Before the operation 50% of the patients reported severe pain, while the other half described only a mild pain. Three months after surgery the pain decreased significantly (p<0,000). 70% of the investigated population reported severe preoperative gait difficulties, whereas only 30% had only mild walking difficulties after 3 weeks. Preoperative analgesic use was also significantly reduced (p=0,004). 40% of the patients used assistive devices for walking. This number reduced to 20% by the end of the research period. Considering the investigated dimensions the patients experienced significant improvement in their quality-of-life in the early postoperative period. Total hip arthroplasty is highly demanding for the patient and has an operational risk, but the expected benefit is substantial. ]

[Correlations Between Burnout and Socio-demographic and Workplace Related Factors Among Health-care Workers During The Covid-19 Pandemics]


[The present study aimed to assess the level of burn-out among health-care workers in 2020 and its correlations with socio-demographic and workplace related factors. The cross-sectional study was conducted by the means of a self-constructed online survey in the beginning of 2021. The responses of 1965 people were analysed with the help of SPSS 23.0. Descriptive statistics, chi-square and Kruskal-Wallis probes were run (p<0.05). Severe burnout was present in 46.7% of the responders. Age, marital status, type of health-care provided and years spent in the health-care system didn’t show any correlation with burnout. Unsure vision, opinion about salary raise and uncertainty at the workplace influenced the level of burnout significantly (p<0.000). The mental health of health-care workers is in continuous decline, in which the COVID-19 pandemic might play a big role. People with worse mental health feel more uncertain regarding their future and job; this might make providing health-care more and more difficult.]

[On February 19, 2022 We celebrate the 205th anniversary of the birth of the first national matronage (head nurse), Zsuzsanna Kossuth. Zsuzsanna Kossuth was characterized by a high degree of empathy, self-sacrifice, exemplary behaviour, and professionalism. She laid the foundation for the processes of nursing and patient care and performed outstanding professional work throughout his life. She made no distinction between man and man, she only saw the suffering patient, in every soldier and injured. She sacrificed his life for his profession. The Hungarian Nursing Association founded the Zsuzsanna Kossuth commemorative medal in 1998, the year of the 150th anniversary of the War of Independence, which is donated every year on February 19.]

[Burnout and depression among healthcare nursing staff]


[The aim was to assess the levels of burnout and depressive symptoms among nursing staff members. We designed an online questionnaire for the present cross-sectional study, which was filled out by 10 285 participants between 01-27-2022 and 02-14-2022. The mean score of burnout showed a decrease compared to the score measured in 2021; however, the percent of nursing staff members suffering from burnout is still high (64.4%), from which 42% indicates severe burnout which would requires treatment. Concerning depressive symptoms, 57.8% of participants did not indicate the presence of depression, the rest presented different levels of depressive symptoms (6.8% showed severe depressive symptoms). Currently patients’ chance of recovery is under the expected level of what our healthcare system could provide, which is partially due to the affected mental state of healthcare nursing staff.]

[Evaluation of clinical practices among academic nursing students]


[Purpose: Establishing a balance between theoretical and practical training is essential in the training of college nursing students. The aim was to assess the students’ experiences of clinical practice and the problems they indicate in the component, which plays an important role in preparing the training for professional competencies. The study sample consisted of 3rd and 4th grade students (N=96) participating in nursing training at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Semmelweis University. The method of data collection was based on the completion of a quantitative online questionnaire, which also included qualitative elements in the form of three open-ended questions. Among the statements measured on the Likert scale, the balance of theory-practice, the role of participants in education, and the time spent on practical tasks received lower average ranks from both grades. Logistic regression is suitable for estimating the probability of a positive/negative impression of a practice as a combined effect of several explanatory variables. Compared to the results of a previous (2009) study, the problems with field clinical training remain unresolved.]

[Results of a national survey in the field of primary care]

[To identify recent national trends in the employment and earnings of nursing personnel in primary healthcare and determine whether salaries and wage growth are associated with changes in the employment. The cross-sectional survey was conducted between 17 May 2021 and 17 June 2021 among nurses working in general, child and family practices, and dental practices selected using a random, sampling method (N=2007). The data gathering took place using a web-based, anonymous, self-completion questionnaire. The authors analysed the gathered data with Microsoft Excel 2007 and SPSS 22.0 software, employing descriptive statistical methods. Participants are highly experienced, with 80% reporting more than 16 years of experience. 7.9% of nurses are educated at or above the baccalaureate level. The majority (89.5%) work full-time as employees of their organizations (95.4%). The GP’s territorial care obligation disparities in nurses salaries documented here should spark healthcare policymakers to conduct pay equity assessments of employees’ salaries to identify and ameliorate pay inequality. The study findings also indicate that tailoring salaries to qualification for the individual nurses may aid in recruiting and retaining nurses in practice. ]
