[Community nursing as a perspective among nursing students at Semmelweis University]

GALVÁCS Henrietta, BALOGH Zoltán

[Aim of the study: To assess career choices among registered nursing students in terms of primary care. Further, consider which factors predominate in the choice of specialty. Between December 2021 and January 2022, we examined the vision of nursing students at the Semmelweis University Faculty of Health Sciences with the help of an online questionnaire, related to community nursing. Our questionnaire was completed by 188 students. 6.4% of students want to work in primary care after graduation. Those who would like to find a job in this field would choose this specialty in 67.6% because of family-friendly conditions, 40.5% because of lower daily working hours, and 39.2% because of independent work. However, with adequate pay and competencies, more than 60% of students would choose this specialty. Reconciling nurses’ competencies and rethinking pay is essential to make this specialty more attractive to prospective professionals. Training institutions must organise and provide both theoretical and practical training with a focus on today’s expectations.]

[Factors Affecting to the Success of Diabetes Education]

POZSÁR Hajnalka

[Educating patients about adequate self-care plays a very important role in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. The goal of the study was to assess the correlation between patients’ age, duration of diabetes and the level of education of patients showing success in education on diabetes. Method: During 2018/2019, 91 patients with type 2 diabetes were included in educational program on diabetes self-care within the Diabetes Counseling Center of the Health Center in Subotica. Knowledge levels and self-care levels of patients was assessed using standardized questionnaires. Patients were divided into groups according to age, duration of illness and level of education. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 20 software. Chi-squared test, T-test and Spearman’s correlation coefficient was used to assess correlation. After education, the level of knowledge, self-care and laboratory parameters of patients has significantly improved. At the beginning of the education, patients older than 65 had a statistically lower level of knowledge about diabetes. Patients younger than 64 years had a significantly higher level of self-care activity. Patients with higher education have a significantly higher level of self-care activity. Most of the differences according to the age and level of education of the patients disappeared after education on diabetes self-care, which indicates that these differences can be removed with appropriate education.]

[Hadrontherapy from a Nursing Perspective]

HIRDI Henriett Éva, BARNAFÖLDI Gergely Gábor

[Hadrontherapy is an innovative treatment to fight against cancer. In hadrontherapy, beams of strongly interacting particles such as protons or ions are used to treat cancers. Because beams of protons or ions can be very precisely focused, they are well suited to treating deep-seated tumours or those located close to critical organs. There is an unequal access to hadrontherapy facilities in Europe. Many centers in Europe already offer hadron therapy, but there is currently no such institution in Hungary, despite the fact that more and more tumors are being diagnosed here. Hungarian patients can access hadrontherapy treatments according to the intra-EU mobility rules or private health insurances. This review aims to introduce the current status of hadrontherapy from a nursing perspective.]

[Difficulties for a family member caring for a relative with dementia]

ÖKRÖSNÉ KEREK Szilvia , STALLER Judit

[Aim of the study: To explore the feelings and problems of a family member caring for a relative with dementia at home. To provide insight into the challenges that informal carers face in coping with the changed living situation. The online, anonymous questionnaire was shared in an informal support group on social media. 133 people completed the questionnaire. Home carers were mainly women, mostly spouse or child of the cared person. Generally caring is performed alone. Caregivers are unaware of claiming carer’s allowance, caregivers highlighted the discrepancy between employment and caring. Relatives are typically older people who are already grandparents, but they cannot reconcile this role with their caring work. The knowledge of GPs and district nurses needs to be updated. Expansion of basic and specialized social services are essential. It is needed to inform the carers about the possibility of financial aids.]

[Importance of oral care of incapacitated patients]

VÁNYI Zsuzsa

[Dental prevention includes, although – especially within the frames of this article – not exclusively the oral cavity prevention. The main goal of this article is to provide an understandable and comprehensive picture for healthcare workers regarding the importance of the oral hygiene and daily oral care of inpatients. We can see it today, that dental care is much more than just the treatment and prevention of oropharingeal lesions. As a scientifically proven fact the oral hygiene, as well its quality and its condition has a basic effect on general health, greatly influences the formation, process, treatment and recovery of other mainly really serious illnesses. Currently there are many professional ongoing researches aiming to manifest the emergence of cohesion between the condition of oral cavity and other systematic illnesses.]
