[Assessment of multidisciplinary teams in psychiatric care – Lessons of three focus groups ]

[Our research group, has studied psychiatric and psycho­the­ra­peutic teams since 2015. The aim of the present research was to identify the Hun­garian characteristics of team composition and operation. Qualitative focus group survey has been conducted on the operation of multidisciplinary teams at the annual conferences of the Hungarian Psychiatric Society in 2017, 2018 and 2019. These three groups focused on the issues of leadership, communication within the team, and competencies. The groups of an average of 17 people formed spontaneously by participation of professionals with different qualifications. The main results of the focus groups were as follows: 1. The various ty­pes of leadership within the team require the distribution and allocation of res­pon­si­bilities and roles and stop the dest­­ruc­tions. 2. Wi­thin the teams there are pre­vai­ling the informal channels of communication. 3. It is im­portant to clarify com­petencies and responsibilities. 'Actually, psy­chiat­ric spe­cia­lists' list of competencies there is not available in Hungary. It seems necessary to define more precisely and reconsider the professional competences of the specialized training in psychiatry and integrating these in the education, further promote the development of „list of competences in psychiatric specialization” by the legislators. The second phase of the research continues as a quantitative study based on the foregoing results gained by questionnaires. ]

[Work Values Preference among hospital midwives]


[The Aim of the Study: The aim of the research was to explore the structure of work values among midwives. Material and Method: Cross sectional study was used with Super‘s Work Values Inventory from 13 hospitals across Hungary. Our questionnaire was divided into 370 midwives, 224 were evaluated. We calculated mean and standard deviation in descriptive statistical analysis. We did factor analysis; variance analysis and post-hoc LSD (Least Significant Difference) test. Results: The most preferred work values were altruism, finances and hierarchy. The level of education influenced the hierarchy of work values. The factor analysis separated two secondary factors: working condition and the self-realisation. There was a significant difference between midwives with OKJ education level and midwives with BSc degree (p=0,014), and other qualifications (p=0,033). Conclusions: Our results suggest that a higher level of education gives the foundation of professional competencies which enable the employee to take conscious consideration of other employee’s views in health care. ]

[Competencies of Community Nurses, Opportunities of Extensions in Adult General Practices of Cegléd .]


[Aims of the study: The local community nurses can use their present abilities between given conditions and how these abilities could be extended. Sample and methods: 137 evaluable questionnaires were returned from 14 family doctors’ patients and 12 questionnaires were from community nurses. The questionnaires consisted of open and closed questions. The data was processed by SPSS and Excel software. Statistics were made by descriptive statistic means and Fischer exact tests. Results: During my survey it turned out that patients don’t utilize basic adult health care means such as measuring blood pressure and blood-sugar and lab examinations. Conclusions: Most of the community nurses can’t utilize most of their abilities and knowledge. They don’t have the opportunity to perform health education or just to talk to the patients face-to-face. My thesis surfaces the fact that community workers and doctors should work coordinate. It’s not true in relation of all the general practitioners and nurses.]

[How can we improve the chronic renal patient care?]


[The author summarizes on the base of forty year’s experience in the field of Hungarian nephrological care, that which are the main developmental problems and possibilities in the clinical nephrology and in dialysis therapy in Hungary recently. There is a clear claim to change in the training of nephrological nurses and nephrologists, and it is very important the organized education of predialysis patients, improving capacity of outpatient nephrological care in his opinion. He recommends organizing the total nephrological care in every county (except nephropathology and renal transplantation) and changing the relevant health law. He emphasizes the importance of conservative care in chronic kidney diseases and home renal replacement therapies. Highly educated nurses must play much more important role in care of dialyzed patients (with more competencies). It is very important planned start in dialysis, and instead of uniform regimes, the therapy provided individually. He suggests measuring of the health-related quality of life regularly and the survival of patients on renal replacement therapy, also. It would be important to determine the residual renal function in dialysis program, monthly. He is considering the phenomenon of “recovery of renal function” and the problem of withdrawal of dialysis.]

[Thinking about the nursing competences]


[Nursing is a complex profession consisting of several vocational skills such as empathy, theoretical, clinical, ethical, and communication skills. Beside these, technical knowledge is also essential for a nurse. The conventional methods of knowledge transfer are less and less able to meet the changed requests of the labor market. As a result of that nurse education has adapted to these changes, therefore the aim of the recent education system is to bring the acquisition of skills and competencies into prominence by using simulations as a helpful teaching strategy. Although for nurses working bedside at present improving their adequate technical skills still needs to be solved. The author wants to draw attention to the importance of maintaining and improving the acquired nursing competences, and that unregulated nursing competences are also important to be revised.]

[Care of patients with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis]

[Aim of the research: Assessment of workers’ knowledge regarding patients suffering from a rare neurological disorder, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Research and sampling methods: The target groups were: intensive care unit (Group I) and home care service nurses (Group II). The authors chose a self-developed questionnaire study, what was filled out on by 161 nurses. Results: Considering graduation from Group I. 17 (20%), from Group II, 27 (36%) have diploma in nursing education. Based on the answers, the ratio of the results are almost identical. Over 40% declare that they do not have sufficient knowledge, nurses can professional protocols in practice, but not always correctly. Taking the recommendation over 70% of answered the questions correctly. More than 95% of the two surveyed agreed, that they are able to give advice on care. 18.87% of Group I, and 20.97% of Group II attend case discussions weekly. Conclusions: Nurses need to supplement their knowledge about the disease, and technical protocol. Additional information needed to develop the competencies of communication among nurses. I would consider to develop a practice guideline on the disease, which members of the care team will uniformly apply. ]

[Investigation of the factors infl uencing among members of the care team in terms of the identity of the leadership]


[Aim of the research: The objective of the research is to map the different subcultures, examine in detail the role of subgroups and the influencing factors that are determining the relationships between the members of the Institution’s healthcare provider teams. Research and sampling methods: Data and information collection was advisedly planned, guided and implemented with help of personal communication techniques. With regard to the final form of data collection method based on standardized preliminary research plan, I’ve selected partly structured and unstructured interview forms, with closed and open questions. The analysis was performed by interviewing 10 chief physicians and 10 head assistants. Results: 100% of the interviewed leaders related that competencies are determined primarily by skills, human attitudes and personality. The analyzed subjects confirmed that well defined expectations expressed by leaders and open communication is enhancing the close co-operation between team members and is reducing hereby the work stress. The investigation underpinned that good co-operation of team leader couples, or lack of co-operation has strong impact on the team’s performance and on the relationships between team members. Conclusions: Identifying, understanding and handling our own or other people feelings, the behavior with our fellow creatures is matter of emotional intelligence, and not of cognitive capability. With help of deep interviews, valid facts, leadership manners, management of conflict situations were identified and pointed at the influencing factors of department’s micro culture and the work atmosphere of the organization. Diversity of the work, rate of workplace monitoring, rate of qualifications and skills required for the job, quality of interpersonal relationships are contributing to workplace satisfaction and the evolution of team spirit among colleague ]

[The international practice and acceptation concept on Hungary of the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) training on the MSc level]

[In Hungary it was a niche and a reasonable developement according to the international trends to start the BSc nursing programme in 1989 - then the MSc nursing programme in 2000 -. However the structure of the nursing specialities’ education was not reviewed with the increase of the level of nursing education, so all of the nursing specialities’ education happens under BSc level. Also did not happened the determination of the nursing competencies on each educational level. These causes just contribute to have decreased number of nursing students within the BSc programmes and the numbers of nurses who intent to leave the profession are also increased. Migration of nurses, increased costs of the health care system, aging society, lack of physicians and the special knowledge of nurses to use for diagnostical and therapeutical equipements are challanges too beside these problems regarding the nurses. However, international literature says that with the employment of well-educated BSc, MSc nurses with expanded competencies the the problem of the lack of the physicians, waiting times, costs of the care, patients’ mortality may be decreased, patient’s satisfaction increases and because of the expanded nursing competencies the migration and nurses intent to leave are decreased. That is why it is reasonable to create BSc/MSc nursing specialities and expand nursing competencies in Hungary as well according to the international trends. Authors of this paper draw up a possible recommendation for the Hungarian implementation.]

[Hungarian health care professionals’ attitudes and habits regarding blood donation in different professional groups]

[INTRODUCTION - We carried out a survey in Hungary among health care workers, we surveyed their habits in blood donation and their knowledge about the blood donation. METHODS - A cross-sectional study happened between 15th July and 15th Sep-tember in 2012 among the Adult nursing care-, Emergency care-, Surgical care-, and Maternity care professional groups, with convenience sampling statistical method (n=312). The data collection happened with a web-based, anonymous, self-administered questionnaire. For the edited electronic questionnaire we used some question from the “Eurobarometer 41.0 (1995): Europeans and the blood” survey. We analyzed the collected data with IBM SPSS Statistics 20 software and Kingsoft Office Spreadsheet (2012) program, using by descriptive statistical methods. RESULTS - The survey has occured with the participation of 312 health care workers. The blood donation activity of the health care workers in every professional groups was higher than the national average in a EU survey stated in 2009. 61.86% of the health care professionals give blood at least twice a year at different locations. The most common causes of the non-appearance from blood donation were the “other reasons”, “earlier forbidden from blood donation” and “lack of time”. We found differences in their view in each groups about refusing/authorizing blood transfusion, but these have no great importance. CONCLUSION - Regarding to our results we recommend to open the eyes to the need for common, aligned collaboration, and to the modifying the current competencies, to the betterment of the opportunities for further trainings in order to further increase of blood donation habits and attitudes. ]
