[Childhood sporadic type of hemiplegic migraine with arteria cerebri media hypoperfusion]

[Hemiplegic migraine is a rare subtype of migraine that is associated with reversible motor weakness in the aura phase. This is an uncommon form of migraine usually starting in childhood. The purpose of this case report is to highlight the differential diagnostic difficulty of the first attack. We describe a case, where the fluctuating unilateral motor weakness and aphasia suggested that the patient had ischaemic stroke. Nevertheless the brain MRI and MR angiography, the measured 5-hydroxyindole acetic acid (5-HIAA) concentration changes and the spontaneously improving clinical status proved the diagnosis of hemiplegic migraine. The MRI and MR angiography was very beneficial in establishing the correct diagnosis in this case. To distinguish between the familiar and sporadic type of hemiplegic migraine further genetic tests can be carried out.]

[Significance of MR-angiographic technical parameters and the contrast material in the diagnosis of peripherial vascular diseases]

[Atherosclerosis presents as a significant problem in everyday healthcare. Thus far, its effect on the vascular bed was measured by means of digital subtraction angiography. More recently, due to advance in hardware, the less invasive techniques like the ultrasound, CT and MRI have into the practice, producing results very similar to those of digital subtraction angiography. Recently, contrast material aimed for blood-pool MR angiography has been introduced. This change presents as a challenge to the operating personnel since the injection rate and the MR sequence parameters need to be adjusted adequately. Also, there is a late-phase breakdown of the contrast material. A further challenge is to interpret the steadystate images. In this article an effort has been made to summarise the basis of MR angiography, with special emphasis on peripheral angiography and suitable contrast materials. Finally, we illustrate our parameters through concrete cases.]

[A case history and diagnostical rewiev of primary cerebral angiitis]

[The authors present a case history of primary cerebral angiitis with four years of follow-up. The early diagnosis was based on typical clinical symptoms, brain MRI, intracerebral MRA and histology of sural nerve biopsy. Electroneurography suggested peripheral involvement, although the patient did not have clinical signs of peripheral neuropathy. Glucocorticoid and immunosuppressive treatment resulted in remission. The diagnostic difficulties of primary cerebral vasculitis are also summarized in the discussion.]

[Hormonal abnormalities caused by intrasellar persistent trigeminal: PTA with hormonal dysfunction]

[Persistent trigeminal artery is a relatively frequent type of intracranial arterial developmental anomalies. The diagnostic tools for demonstration previously consisted of carotid angiography, later CT and DSA and nowadays MR and MRA. The practical benefit of the diagnosis is to avoid any hazard at the operation of associated hypophysis adenomas and aneurysms and could also give a possible explanation for apparent hormonal abnormalities. The authors support the latter possibility with a case report.]

[Experimental e-Learning course in the further training of Hungarian radiographers]

[The growth in digital media technology within the past decade has strengthened e-Learning’s position in education. Traditional teaching methods are changing: from teacher to moderator and passive learner to active learner. A pilot e-Learning course in MR angiography (MRA) has been undertaken with Hungarian radiographer participants. The e-Learning course consisted of three phases covering basic MRA physics and technical aspects, advanced MRA techniques and concluding with an assessment work. The promising results suggest that e-learning may be a feasable method for the continuing professional development of Hungarian radiographers.]
