[Telephone hotline crisis intervention during the Covid-19 pandemic]

TÓTH Mónika Ditta

[The COVID-19 pandemic and the successive restrictive measures are placing a huge psychological burden on the population worldwide. Isolation, narrowing of social relationships, constant fear, and the illness itself contributed to the development of various mental disorders. The mental strain on healthcare workers, in addition to their heavy physical workload is also a particular problem. In this situation, easily accessible, telephone counselling services, which does not require physical meeting, are one of the most important resources for mental health intervention worldwide. The present study demonstrates the mental challenges caused by the pandemic, the brief history of telephone crisis care, and studies about its effectiveness. In addition, this study focuses on the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on using of telephone counselling services. Several countries are presented with significantly increased use of these services. Finally, the Hungarian situation is demonstrated with the nature of COVID-19 related calls of the Hungarian hotline service. ]

[Paradigm shift in the treatment of osteoarthrosis and the importance of prevention today]

DÖMSE Eszter

[Osteoarthrosis is a major burden on our society, both in terms of health affairs and health economy. The increasing strain on joints by competitive sports and the growing prevalence of sedentary lifestyle are coupled main factors behind the increasing occurence of osteoarthritis in younger generations. Its pathomechanism is recently recognised to be a combination of inflammatory and degenerative processes. Concerning the serious and even quality of life worsening outcomes and its growing and spreading prevalence, the role of prevention has become crucial. This study reviews the preventive options, emphasizing the importance of recreational sport and physical activities, while presenting also the new generation of chondroprotective agents. ]

[Cholesterol-lowering is not the Holy Grail, but neither is the work of the devil]

BAJNOK László

[Cholesterol-lowering statins are the most tested medications in respect of the effects and side-effects. Based on these, we can safely claim that most of the negative opinions about cholesterol-lowering are not realistic. It is not a panacea, but it is proven that around a 30% of cardio- and cerebrovascular risk reducation can be achieved by their regular taking, while the incidence of side effects and risks are at least one order of magnitude lower in each patient groups. For cholesterol, there is no “normal” lab threshold or low level, only “target values”, since the mean value in the general population is high in regard of atherosclerosis (the values measured at birth and among natural people can be considered normal). Let us appreciate the cholesterol- lowering medications because we do not have a large armamentarium!]

[BIOMECHANICS OF INTRACRANIAL ANEURYSMS]

FARKAS István, NYÁRY István, RAFFAI Gábor, ZILAHY G, MONOS Emil

[Introduction - Viscoelastic parameters of circumferential and meridional strips of ruptured and silent aneurysms were investigated (considered clinical and histological data either) in order to advance the prediction of risk of aneurysm rupture. Method - In our clinical practice, aneurysms managed by microsurgery aneurysm clipping were removed. Meridional and circumferential strips were cut. Strips were investigated by an uniaxial biomechanical instrument: distending force was recorded as the length of the strips was increased in steps. Normal stress-relaxation patterns were detected. The shape of strain curves well overlapped with the Standard Linear Solid Model curve, as had been expected. The viscosity, serial and parallel elastic moduli of the model were then computed. Results - Linear correlation was demonstrated amongst peek distending force detected and aneurysm strip thickness. Steric inhomogenity was detected at the meridional and circumferential strips. Strain-stress behaviour of ruptured and silent aneurysm specimen showed significant difference. Values of strips originated from patients suffered from hypertension as well as strips originated from aneurysms had been histologically found inflamed were higher. Discussion - Results of these observations are going to be used to set three dimensional computer model in cooperation with IT team of Budapest University of Technology and Economics to advance rupture risk prediction.]

[Job satisfaction and well-being among nurses]

NÉMETH Anikó, LAMPEK Kinga, BETLEHEM József

[Aim of the study: To monitor the changes in job satisfaction and well-being of nurses and to investigate whether the uncertainty caused by the reorganisation of workplaces affected their well-being. Sample and methods: Two cross-sectional studies were conducted in six Hungarian teaching hospitals in 2003 and in 2010 involving full time worker female inpatient care nurses who were asked to complete a questionnaire developed by the researchers. Results: The degree of acknowledgement and psychological strain at the workplace decreased significantly since the first survey. The autonomy at work dropped which is reflected by the diminished decision making and fewer opportunities to plan the working methods, work tasks, pace of work and jobs. Nurses evaluate the working community as worse, but the judgement of the head nurses did not change in 7 years. The rate of positive well-being significantly decreased since 2003, although the extent of negative well-being did not change. Conclusions: The job satisfaction of nurses decreased and the uncertainty at workplace affects their well-being.]
