[Steroid anaesthesia in neurosurgery]

KISS József, VISZT József, ENDRŐDI János

[In the introduction, the authors briefly describe the effects, advantages and disadvantages of steroids. They describe their procedures and results and then evaluate them. They conclude that steroids (Viadril, Viadril G.) can be used as a basic narcotic with excellent results in neurosurgical operations, which usually take several hours, but their effects need to be complemented. It can be combined well with other narcotics such as barbiturates, Fluothane, Nitrous Oxide and its effect is reinforced, "potentiated". This form of anaesthesia is considered particularly suitable for patients who are weakened, elderly, in poor general condition, suffering from metabolic, hepatic or renal disorders, and for emergency surgery in neurosurgery and neurotraumatology. ]
